What Others Think About You
I wish I could be as free as a young child and
not care about what others think, I have enjoyed
many hours of observing my boys. I love to watch
them be themselves and run so free. Today
especially was so wonderful to watch the children
play outside, it was the first day that felt like
spring before spring has arrived. I’m sure many
can understand me when I say you get to a point
where you’ve had enough of the winter temperatures
and you start to crave spring, well it was one of
those days. I think children feel it too, they
just run, laugh, and play so freely like there is
nothing better in the world. They don’t care about
what others think, or worry about past mistakes or
what the future holds, they live in the moment.
"So don't worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's
trouble is enough for today" Matthew 6:33
What I also love about young children is they
don’t worry about what others think of their
appearance. They don’t care if the world doesn’t
like their outfit they picked out or what shoes
they are wearing or if their hair looks perfect.
I’ve got to be honest with you I encourage
independence and I am just so proud that my
boys dress themselves including picking out what
they are going to wear. Let me tell you they have
come up with some pretty interesting combinations
of colours and patterns of clothing. My five year
old’s favourite outfit is the one I call a
Christmas tree ornament. He looks very festive
dressed in his green athletic pants with a red
shirt, and brightly coloured Star Wars socks. Now
just imagine walking into work dressed like that,
I’m sure you could just hear the comments and see
the expressions of coworkers. Knowing what others
might think, you most likely wouldn’t
leave the house dressed like that, even if it
secretly was your favourite outfit to wear. Most
woman struggle with wanting to feel accepted and
one way is to “look” a certain way. Even a sound
minded woman that tries hard not to care about
what others think, subconsciously I believe most
do, maybe takes that one last look in the mirror
before going out the door or picks up the latest
fashion magazine to see what everyone is wearing
for the new season.
9 And I want
women to be modest in their appearance. They
should wear decent and appropriate clothing and
not draw attention to themselves by the way they
fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or
expensive clothes.10 For
women who claim to be devoted to God should make
themselves attractive by the good things they
do. 1 Timothy 2:9-10
As we get older our
appearance starts to change, our outer beauty
begins to age as our inner beauty should become
more beautiful. God sees our inner beauty, our
heart and spirit. As we become more like Him
through faithfully following Him, our inner beauty
starts to blossom and shine brighter. Have you
ever been around an older lady and just thought
she was the most beautiful woman in the room
because there is just something so unique, pure,
and beautiful about her in the way she sees life?
It’s her inner beauty, her youthful perspective on
life and wise words she uses that contributes to
her beauty.
I praise you because I am
fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are
wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm
139:14
| Our culture today has made it challenging to
be ourselves and feel good about it. Just like a
young child we shouldn’t worry about what others
think, and compare ourselves to what is
considered a beautiful woman, always stressing
about our physical appearance. True beauty lies
in our spirit, the part of us that God sees and
feeds. The sooner we take a stand and accept who
we are, and are happy with how God created
us, the sooner we will see past what |
| others
think and truly understand what a beautiful woman
is. |
